Darma Valley Panchachuli Base Camp Trek

Overview

A remote Himalayan escape into one of Kumaon’s least explored valleys — trek to the base of the Panchachuli glacier through ancient Shauka tribal villages, far from the usual trekking crowds.

Darma Valley sits quietly in the far eastern corner of Kumaon, hugging the Indo-Tibetan border along the Dhauliganga river — a region that sees a fraction of the footfall of better-known Uttarakhand treks. The valley is home to 12 ancient Shauka tribal villages, including Dantu and Dugtu, where traditional wood-carved houses still stand along the old Indo-Tibet trade route. From Dantu, a short trek leads to the base of the Panchachuli glacier — the same five snow-capped peaks visible from Munsiyari, but seen here from far closer, with none of the crowds. Unlike the multi-day trek-in most operators require from Sobla, this itinerary drives directly to Dantu village by road, keeping the trip to a tight 4 days — ideal if you want the Panchachuli glacier views without committing to a week-long expedition.
